About this series

Twenty-two case-illustrated sessions on the emergencies and urgent ward-cover calls you are either already getting as a foundation doctor or, if you are a medical student, will be getting within the next 12 months. Same format as our highly acclaimed FY1: The Missing Manual series. Each one runs 30 minutes, on a Wednesday evening, built around a single case.

Each week I take one call and work through it in order: what to assess, what to do, who to speak to, and what your senior hopes you might do.

It runs from A–E and arrest calls through hypotension, the new oxygen requirement, sepsis and reduced GCS to arrhythmias, DKA, hyperkalaemia, seizures, major haemorrhage and the dying patient overnight. Almost all of it is the first half hour, before anybody senior is at the bedside.

Open to foundation doctors, medical students and doctors at any stage who want a practical refresher. Come to one session or all 22.
